UNITRANS

Unitrans is UC Davis's transit system, free for UCD students as long as you show your student ID!

Getting used to the system is a bit difficult though at first but there are a couple of different ways to use Unitrans.

1. Google Maps

  • While the apps/websites provided will show you the bus routes, Google Maps will show you a couple of different lines you can take to reach your destination. Google Maps isn't the most accurate in terms of which line to take but the times the bus will arrive/depart are generally accurate! I recommend using Google Maps first to see a line that will take you to your destination and then confirming with the live route feature on the Unitrans website to see if your destination is a stop on the line.

  • The website can be very confusing, but has accurate information on bus route paths and its stops. I noticed that the live route map can sometimes be incorrect and not show buses that are on the route.

SAFE RIDE

A free transportation service, similar to a taxi! All you have to do is install the TapRide app, set your pick up location (has to be on UCD campus) and destination (anywhere on UCD campus after 5pm, or anywhere in Davis after 10pm).

Outside Davis

DAVIS/BERKELEY SHUTTLE The Davis/Berkeley shuttle is a bus service that provides transportation to and from UCD & UCB's campus. It costs ~$15 one way and is for UCD/UCB faculty, staff and registered students. I have attached the bus schedule below!

ZIPCAR

Zipcar is a car-sharing service so as long as you sign up for a membership, you’re able to reserve and use any of the cars stationed around Davis. There are cars on campus and in the residential areas and you’re charged per hour you use it, but gas/insurance/etc is free!

RIDESHARE: FACEBOOK GROUP

On Facebook, there are rideshare groups for people who are interested in carpooling back home or to Davis during holidays or the summer. Generally, a person will post that they are driving to SoCal or the bay area and you can join their car by helping with gas fees.

AMTRACK

Amtrack is a train that you can take to with over 150 locations within California. This is an option when traveling back home to the Bay or SoCal.
